Here you’ll learn how to manage and customize your blog that may be hosted on servers, such as WordPress.com or Blogspot.com
WordPress.com vs WordPress.org
The fundamental difference between WP.com and WP.org is where the blog is hosted. Some web designers purchase their own domain and/or server space from various websites, such as HostMonster, BlueHost, and GoDaddy. These sites allow web designers to register a domain (URL) and offer space to store files (CSS, HTML, images, etc) needed to create a website.
WP.com provide users to create blogs that are hosted on WP’s servers. This service is free, but limiting. All blog entries, images, and information are stored onto the WP server. Certain extended services require purchasing.
WP.org provides users with the script (files) needed to host a WordPress blog onto one’s own server. For example, Blessed-Beauty.net is managed using the WordPress script on a HostMonster server. This option gives a web designer more creative control, however, purchasing server space yearly isn’t cheap!
If you have the means and enough web design knowledge to maintain a site using space on a server, by all means go ahead. But if you’re not web-savy or can’t afford a server just yet, having your site hosted is the way to go.
