For many years I was very unhappy with myself. I didn’t take control in areas I should have and allowed myself to be controlled by depression and consequences. I’d remain idle until I choose to take action, which resulted in mistakes.
Finally, after experiencing an extreme low in Spring 2007, I decided to control my surroundings, even if that included removing myself from situations and reconstructing my attitude. That following year was a time of rebuilding my foundation and sorting my priorities. I made many changes that created a lot of happiness. I took control of my depressive behavior, became more honest with myself and others, rebuilt connections with family members, made and maintained wonderful friendships, and began pursuing ambitions. Most importantly, I forgave myself in order to forgive others. I examined my past mistakes, found an acceptance and understanding that has allowed me to mature and be more thoughtful in my actions.
I’m no longer waiting. That was the underlying problem of my unhappiness — my choice to be idle — not taking my life into my own hands and waiting for good things to come. Now I make it happen and aspire.
